When we reach Dalyan harbour, our cruise starts with our ready boat. Our first destination is the Dalyan Rock Tombs. After our guide gives you information about tombs and arounds, a break is given for you to take many photos. In Dalyan life is the equivalent of the water. The Dalyan river which is the topic of many movies, is famous for its caretta caretta (sea turtle) and blue crabs. Dalyan ıztuzu Beach known as The Turtle Beach which streches 7.5 kms is one of the most picturesque beach of Turkey where you can aslo swim and enjoy the beach. After the ıztuzu Beach, the open buffet lunch by the Dalyan river is served and following the lunch, you can also make use of the curative spas and curative mud bath. Then we say farewell to you after leaving you to your hotels.
A day in Dalyan from Fethiye
Dalyan is about 90 minutes by road from Fethiye. You are collected early, and the guide fills the drive with background on the area before you swap the minibus for a flat river boat at Dalyan town. From there the whole day is on the water.
The boat threads through tall reed beds to the Kaunos rock tombs, cut high into the cliff face by the Lycians around the fourth century BC. You stop for photos, then carry on downriver to Iztuzu beach, a long sandbar between the river and the sea that is one of the main loggerhead turtle nesting sites in the Mediterranean. There is time to swim. Lunch is at a riverside restaurant, and afterwards you can sit in the warm sulphur pool and mud baths at Sultaniye before the boat turns back.
Worth knowing
- The mud baths smell of sulphur and the water is cloudy. That is the point. Rinse off in the showers afterwards and do not wear a swimsuit you love, the mud stains light colours.
- Between May and October parts of Iztuzu are roped off for nesting turtles and rangers move people along at dusk. Follow their lead.
- Bring cash for lunch drinks, the mud bath entry and the boat captain, plus a dry bag for your phone.
- It is a long day, roughly ten hours door to door. Good for families, less so for anyone who wants a slow morning.
